On Thursday, Dr. Shai’a Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, met with Abdul Sattar Iswaif, the newly appointed representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Yemen. This meeting marks a significant step in enhancing collaboration between the Yemeni government and the IOM.
Minister Al-Zandani expressed his warm welcome to Iswaif and emphasized the ministry’s commitment to facilitating the IOM’s efforts. He highlighted the importance of addressing the humanitarian needs of irregular migrants and displaced persons in Yemen. The minister underscored the necessity of cooperation to tackle the challenges posed by irregular migration from the Horn of Africa.
In response, Iswaif outlined the IOM’s plans to coordinate with relevant authorities to better serve both the Yemeni people and migrants. He stressed the organization’s dedication to providing essential assistance across various sectors, including initiatives aimed at sustainable solutions for migration issues.
The meeting also included Ambassador Abdul Qader Hadi, the head of the Minister’s Office, who contributed to the discussions on enhancing the partnership between Yemen and the IOM.
This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of both the Yemeni government and the IOM to address the pressing humanitarian challenges facing migrants and displaced individuals in the region.
