On Tuesday, the Arab League Council convened for an extraordinary session at the level of permanent representatives, chaired by Jordan. The meeting aims to address the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli blockade in Gaza.
The session, initiated at the request of Palestine, focuses on the catastrophic conditions resulting from the blockade. Participants will discuss the dire situation, which includes starvation and the inhumane distribution points that have emerged. Reports indicate that these points have become targets for violence against civilians in Gaza.
Additionally, the council will examine the alarming trend of attacks on both Islamic and Christian places of worship. A significant point of concern is the Israeli plan to revoke municipal authority over the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. This plan aims to transfer control to what is referred to as the “religious council” of colonial settlements. The council will explore strategies to counter these unprecedented violations through political, legal, and diplomatic channels at both the Arab and international levels.
The discussions at this extraordinary session reflect the urgent need for collective action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the threats to religious sites. The Arab League aims to mobilize support and advocate for the rights of those affected by these critical issues.
