The Deputy Minister of Planning discusses with the World Bank and UNICEF support for digital transformation and health nutrition programs.

Deputy Minister of Planning Discusses Digital Transformation and Health Programs with International Organizations

In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Dr. Nizar Bashihab, the Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, engaged with a delegation from the World Bank, led by digital specialist Issam Khayyat. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in digital transformation and developing the digital infrastructure for government services.

Digital Transformation and Technical Infrastructure

The meeting explored optimal ways to support digital transformation projects for public services. Key topics included enhancing cybersecurity and interventions aimed at improving the telecommunications and information technology sectors. Dr. Bashihab emphasized the importance of directing World Bank support toward sustainable development projects, particularly digital transformation. He noted that this initiative would enhance government performance and improve service quality for citizens. Additionally, he stressed the need to build the capacities of national personnel in digital transformation and cybersecurity.

The World Bank delegation expressed its commitment to supporting the government’s efforts in developing digital infrastructure. This support includes investments in submarine cables and international connectivity, which are crucial for Yemen’s readiness for digital transformation.

Strengthening Nutrition and Health Programs with UNICEF

In a separate discussion, Dr. Bashihab met with Obia Ashing, the Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF in Yemen for program affairs. They reviewed the implementation of UNICEF’s programs and explored ways to enhance cooperation in nutrition, health, water, and child protection.

Dr. Bashihab highlighted the need to prioritize UNICEF’s interventions, particularly in addressing stunting and malnutrition among children and women. He called for conducting field surveys to update data and measure progress effectively, which would help guide interventions more efficiently.

He also urged the swift implementation of a project aimed at localizing food industries related to nutritional supplements. This initiative would open the market to specialized companies, thereby enhancing food security and supporting sustainable development efforts.

In response, the UNICEF representative outlined the organization’s strategies and plans for the current year. He explained that UNICEF is implementing a comprehensive program focused on three main pillars: nutrition, health, and water. This program aims to improve humanitarian and developmental conditions for the most vulnerable populations in Yemen.

The discussions underscore a collaborative effort to address pressing issues in Yemen, particularly in digital transformation and health, as the country navigates its path toward sustainable development.
