Today, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mustafa Noman, discussed bilateral cooperation between Yemen and Djibouti with Djiboutian Minister of Interior Omar Said. They focused on issues related to migration and asylum, as well as the humanitarian challenges arising from the ongoing influx of migrants and displaced persons across the Red Sea.
During their meeting, held on the sidelines of the 77th Executive Committee session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Noman highlighted the economic and humanitarian repercussions of the war ignited by Houthi militias. He emphasized the war’s effects on regional security and stability, stressing the importance of unifying efforts between the Yemeni and Djiboutian governments to address the increasing pressure on essential services.
Noman expressed gratitude on behalf of the Yemeni government to the Republic of Djibouti for hosting Yemeni displaced persons and for the ongoing facilities and care provided. He reaffirmed the deep historical ties and kinship between the two brotherly peoples.
For his part, the Djiboutian Minister of Interior outlined the humanitarian and logistical pressures his country faces due to the daily influx of refugees and irregular migrants from the Horn of Africa and Yemen. He pointed out the urgent needs in reception centers and camps, particularly the necessity of preparing shelter infrastructure ahead of the rainy seasons.
The minister confirmed that his country requires more direct humanitarian support from the international community and donors to enhance its capacity to respond to the growing needs.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic coordination in international forums in Geneva. They aimed to mobilize international support to address urgent humanitarian needs, which would help alleviate burdens on both countries and improve conditions for refugees and migrants.
