On Wednesday, the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daari, held a significant meeting in Aden with Patrick Simonnet, the newly appointed European Union Ambassador to Yemen. This meeting aimed to address pressing issues affecting the region.
The meeting included key figures such as Major General Ahmed Al-Basri, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammed Al-Shaari, Commander of the Military Police, and Major General Abdulhakim Al-Shaibi, Director of the Minister’s Office. Together, they discussed the ongoing challenges in Yemen, particularly the continued assaults by the Houthi militia on military positions across multiple fronts.
Minister Al-Daari highlighted the Iranian regime’s role in supplying weapons and drugs to the Houthi militia. He pointed out that Iran is also involved in establishing drug production facilities in areas controlled by the militia. Recently, security forces in Al-Mahra thwarted an attempt to set up a drug manufacturing lab, showcasing the ongoing battle against such illicit activities.
Al-Daari emphasized the necessity for the international community to enhance partnerships with the navy and coast guard. He believes that such collaboration is crucial for combating smuggling and securing Yemen’s coastal regions.
This meeting underscores the urgent need for international support in addressing the multifaceted challenges facing Yemen today.
