Houthi Attacks on Civilian Airports Represent a Violation of International Humanitarian Law

The official spokesperson for the Coalition Forces, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, stated that the Houthi militia’s attacks on airports and civilian facilities pose a direct threat to civilian safety and the security of travelers. He emphasized that these actions constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and its customary rules.

Targeting of Civilian Areas

During a press conference held today regarding the targeting of King Khalid International Airport, Al-Maliki noted that the assault on civilians and civilian objects, including sacred sites, reflects the Houthi militia’s approach, which contradicts humanitarian principles and values.

Condolences and Condemnation

Al-Maliki expressed his heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of the victims affected by these attacks. He wished for a swift recovery for the injured and condemned the actions carried out by the Houthi militia, which targeted civilians and civilian facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. This incident is part of a series of assaults on civilian facilities frequented daily by thousands of innocent people.

Threat to Holy Sites

He pointed out that the targeting of Mecca and Medina represents a continuation of a systematic hostile approach, threatening the safety of those visiting the holy sites and instilling fear among the peaceful. Al-Maliki stressed the importance of taking necessary measures to protect the Kingdom’s security and its sacred sites.

Advanced Military Capabilities

Al-Maliki revealed that the Houthi militia has acquired advanced technologies with the assistance of regional parties, making them the first terrorist group to possess ballistic missiles, offensive and suicide drones, and explosive speedboats.

Coalition Forces’ Response

He stated, “The leadership of the coalition forces has worked to dismantle the mountain storage networks established by the militia in Sana’a, Saada, and Amran, from which attacks are launched against Yemen and neighboring countries. Additionally, several missile launch platforms have been destroyed.”

Air Defense Effectiveness

Al-Maliki added, “The Kingdom’s air defense systems have demonstrated high efficiency in intercepting threats and thwarting targeting attempts.” He confirmed that the coalition forces continue to take necessary actions to counter Houthi threats and dismantle their offensive capabilities, including weapon storage and missile launch platforms.

Use of Civilian Infrastructure

The spokesperson confirmed that the coalition forces have observed the Houthi militia’s use of civilian objects and vital resources to support their war efforts. This includes the Al-Sabah Central Station in Sana’a, underground fuel storage facilities, and fuel tanks and docks designated for transport and unloading in Hodeidah, Sana’a, and Dhamar.

Call for Immediate Cessation of Attacks

Al-Maliki stressed the urgent need to immediately halt all Houthi operations targeting civilians and civilian objects, including airports, ports, oil facilities, and infrastructure.
