The Chairman of the Shura Council meets with the Japanese Ambassador to Yemen.

Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghr Welcomes Newly Appointed Japanese Ambassador to Yemen

On Thursday, Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghr, the Chairman of the Shura Council, welcomed Yoichi Nakashima, Japan’s newly appointed ambassador to Yemen. This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Yemen and Japan.

Strengthening Diplomatic Ties

During the meeting, Dr. Bin Daghr expressed his warm congratulations to Ambassador Nakashima on his new role. He wished him success in his diplomatic duties and highlighted the strong ties that exist between the two nations and their peoples. The discussion also addressed the current situation in Yemen, particularly the aftermath of the Houthi coup against the legitimate government. Dr. Bin Daghr emphasized the urgent need for Japanese and international support to pressure Houthi forces into engaging in peace efforts and restoring stability in Yemen.

Japan’s Role in Humanitarian Support

Dr. Bin Daghr praised Japan’s active role in providing economic and humanitarian assistance to Yemen. He stressed the importance of ensuring that international aid reaches those in need, especially after Houthi forces seized much of the humanitarian aid intended for the Yemeni people. He called for enhanced cooperation between Yemen and Japan to tackle humanitarian crises and promote sustainable development.

Commitment to Peace Negotiations

The Chairman reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to achieving peace through previous negotiations with the Houthis. He noted the significant efforts made by the legitimate government to find peaceful solutions. However, he lamented that the Houthis’ obstinacy and refusal to cooperate hindered progress toward a secure and stable agreement.

Support from the Saudi-led Coalition

Dr. Bin Daghr also acknowledged the efforts of the Saudi-led coalition in supporting the legitimate government in Yemen. He expressed gratitude for their role in ending the Houthi coup and restoring state institutions, which is crucial for achieving security and stability in the region.

Japan’s Continued Support

In response, Ambassador Nakashima reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the legitimate government and the Yemeni people during these challenging times. He stated that Japan would intensify its efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of the Yemeni population. The ambassador also highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation between Japan and Yemen, commending the Yemeni government’s pursuit of peace and stability.

Attendees of the Meeting

The meeting included notable members of the Shura Council, such as Sheikh Alawi Al-Basha Bin Zaba and Sheikh Salah Batis, along with Dr. Samira Khamis, who contributed to the discussions on Yemen’s future.

This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of both Yemen and Japan to work together in addressing the pressing challenges facing the Yemeni people and fostering a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
