On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the credentials of new ambassadors from several countries, including Italy, Norway, Albania, Greece, and Kuwait. The ambassadors are Carlo Baldocchi, Kjersti Tromsdal, Saimir Bala, Katerina Varfiegu, and Falah Al-Mutairi.
During separate meetings, the newly appointed ambassadors conveyed greetings from their respective leaders to President Alimi. They expressed wishes for his health and happiness, as well as for peace and stability for the Yemeni people.
In response, President Alimi welcomed the ambassadors and asked them to relay his greetings to their leaders. He assured them of his government’s commitment to providing all necessary support to facilitate their diplomatic missions and enhance bilateral relations.
President Alimi expressed gratitude for the international community’s efforts to strengthen its presence during this critical phase in Yemen’s history. He emphasized that this reflects confidence in Yemen’s future and a desire to foster friendship and cooperation.
The president highlighted that the current moment is not only significant for Yemen but also for regional security and international navigation. He noted that recent Houthi escalations were not unexpected, attributing them to a broader regional agenda linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which uses Houthi militias as leverage amid political and military pressures.
President Alimi reiterated the government’s openness to serious peace initiatives. However, he criticized the Houthis for repeatedly undermining peace efforts by creating crises or escalating tensions, particularly against neighboring countries and international shipping.
The president addressed the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Houthi militias, stating that over 20 million Yemenis require some form of humanitarian assistance. He clarified that this crisis stems not from geography or international sanctions but from policies of rebellion, war, resource plundering, and prolonged conflict.
President Alimi stressed that any humanitarian aid must align with support for state institutions to avoid prolonging suffering. He informed the ambassadors about the government’s ongoing efforts to implement institutional and economic reforms, restore state institutions, and improve the investment climate.
He asserted that investing in the legitimate government and its institutions is the quickest route to achieving stability in Yemen and the region, particularly concerning vital maritime routes.
The president also discussed Iran’s destabilizing role in militarizing local communities and threatening international navigation. He expressed deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s responsible role in supporting Yemen’s economy, state institutions, peace efforts, and humanitarian response plans.
President Alimi emphasized the importance of seizing the current moment to reshape security and stability equations in the region. He described this as a genuine opportunity to end the model of cross-border armed militias that have destabilized several countries and threatened the global economy.
He reiterated that Yemen will no longer accept being an open arena for militia exploitation. The government will work with the international community to secure one of the world’s most crucial maritime corridors and combat terrorism, piracy, irregular migration, and organized crime.
The meeting included the presence of Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Mohammed Haj Mahfouz, head of presidential ceremonies and protocol.
