President Rashad Alimi Meets with U.S. Charge d'Affaires Jonathan Pecha

On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Jonathan Pecha, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen. The meeting focused on the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and explored avenues for enhancing and developing these ties across various sectors.

Discussion on Local Developments and Shared Concerns

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the latest local developments and issues of mutual interest. A key topic was the ongoing efforts to protect maritime routes and counter the terrorist attacks by Houthi militias, which are supported by the Iranian regime. These attacks pose significant threats to international shipping lanes and maritime vessels.

U.S. Support for Constitutional Legitimacy

President Alimi praised the United States for its unwavering support of constitutional legitimacy in Yemen. He acknowledged the humanitarian interventions made by the U.S. to alleviate the suffering caused by Houthi militias. This support plays a crucial role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Call for Increased Economic and Developmental Support

The President expressed his hope for increased international economic and developmental support. He emphasized the need to improve the national currency’s position, enhance living conditions, and strengthen basic services. Additionally, he called for the completion of comprehensive reform efforts and the enhancement of law enforcement capabilities.

Cooperation in Counterterrorism and Security

In this context, President Alimi highlighted the existing cooperation and partnership in combating terrorism and smuggling. He acknowledged the active role of the United States in enforcing the ban on Iranian arms shipments to Houthi militias. This cooperation aims to cut off funding sources for their terrorist activities and mitigate threats to Yemen’s security and stability.
