The Chairman of the Leadership Council urges the international community to respond appropriately to the Houthi terrorist threat.

President Alimi Meets European Diplomats in Aden

On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed European diplomats at the Maasheeq Palace in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital. The meeting included Gabriel Monera Vinales, head of the European Union mission to Yemen, along with the ambassadors from France, the Netherlands, and the acting German ambassador.

Commitment to Support Yemen

During the meeting, President Alimi expressed gratitude to the European ambassadors for their strong commitment to supporting the Yemeni people. He emphasized the importance of restoring state institutions and addressing the challenges posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

Current Developments in Yemen

President Alimi briefed the diplomats on the latest national developments and highlighted the necessary European interventions to support Yemen’s economy. He pointed out the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and shipping vessels.

Economic Struggles and Losses

The President noted that Yemen faces not only a military conflict but also an economic battle. He stated that the country has lost approximately 70% of its public resources due to Houthi attacks on export ports. The government is now working to compensate for these losses through sustainable self-sourced revenue.

Acknowledgment of Regional Support

President Alimi praised the supportive stance of the Saudi-led coalition, particularly the United Arab Emirates, in assisting the Yemeni people and their political leadership. Their continuous economic, service, and humanitarian interventions have bolstered resilience across various levels.

Houthi Economic Warfare

In contrast, the President condemned the Houthi militia’s systematic economic warfare against the Yemeni people. He criticized their issuance of new currencies outside the central bank’s framework, which undermines efforts to improve living conditions.

Addressing Corruption and Security Threats

President Alimi described the government’s internal reforms as a battle against corruption and the forces of evil. He highlighted that the conflict extends beyond internal rebellion, posing a cross-border threat from armed groups that disrupt humanitarian efforts and engage in assassination plots.

Recent Security Incidents

He mentioned recent security operations that uncovered dangerous cells responsible for assassinating World Food Program employees and other innocent civilians. These actions aim to destabilize liberated areas and influence international perceptions of the Yemeni government’s ability to secure its territories.

Regional and Global Security Threats

The President also addressed the Houthi militia’s terrorist attacks that threaten regional and international security. He cited recent incidents involving commercial vessels and the tragic loss of innocent lives, marking one of the most severe threats to maritime security since World War II.

Urgent Calls for Action

President Alimi acknowledged the European Union’s support but stressed that the current international response does not adequately match the existing threats. He urged European partners to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization and take practical measures to isolate them as an unlawful armed entity.

Commitment to Peace

The President reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to a peace process based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references. He expressed support for the United Nations envoy’s efforts and the facilitation of humanitarian organizations in delivering aid across the country.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with the presence of Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Presidential Leadership Council Office, and Claire Nanter, the political advisor from the European Union. The discussions underscored the urgent need for coordinated international efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Yemen.
