President Rashad Alimi Meets with Russian Duma Chairman in Moscow

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma, in Moscow. The meeting focused on enhancing the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and Russia, as well as discussing the latest developments in Yemen and regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Historical Ties and Future Cooperation

During the meeting, President Alimi praised the historical ties between Yemen and Russia, which date back nearly a century. He emphasized the mutual commitment to expanding cooperation and coordination across various sectors, particularly in legislative matters.

The President expressed gratitude for Russia’s support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership in international forums. He also highlighted his hopes for Moscow to continue playing an active role in supporting Yemen’s legitimate state and institutions.

Current Situation in Yemen

President Alimi addressed the ongoing situation in Yemen, particularly the stalled peace efforts due to the intransigence of Houthi militias. He reiterated the legitimate government’s openness to all initiatives aimed at ending the conflict, in accordance with agreed-upon references, especially UN Resolution 2216.

Support from Russia

In response, Chairman Volodin welcomed President Alimi and his accompanying delegation, reaffirming Russia’s ongoing support for Yemen and its aspirations for security, stability, and peace. He noted significant milestones in the relationship between the two countries and expressed confidence that President Alimi’s visit would provide a crucial boost to bilateral ties at all levels.

Importance of Legislative Coordination

Volodin underscored the importance of close coordination between the State Duma and the Yemeni Parliament. He advocated for the exchange of expertise and visits to serve the shared interests of both nations and their peoples.

The meeting included key figures such as Dr. Shaif Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and advisors to President Alimi: General Mahmoud Al-Sobaihi for Defense and Security, Engineer Omar Al-Amoudi for Development and Reconstruction, Marwan Dhamaj for Cultural Affairs, and Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi, Yemen’s Ambassador to Russia.

This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between Yemen and Russia, paving the way for future collaboration and mutual support.
