The Chairman of the Leadership Council meets with the British Minister of State for Middle East Affairs.

President Alimi Welcomes UK Minister for Middle East Affairs

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Hamish Balthazar, the UK Minister of State for Middle East Affairs. The meeting took place in the presence of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the strong historical ties between Yemen and the United Kingdom. They explored ways to enhance cooperation across various sectors. The conversation also highlighted the priorities for British and international support aimed at strengthening the Yemeni government’s capabilities. This support focuses on building institutions, ensuring security and stability, combating shared threats, and addressing terrorism and organized crime.

UK’s Support for Yemen

President Alimi praised the UK’s steadfast support for national governments in the region, including Yemen and Sudan. He emphasized the importance of the UK’s ongoing commitment to the unity of nations and their legitimate institutions. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude for the UK’s role in the United Nations Security Council as a penholder and a responsible partner in developing realistic and sustainable political solutions.

Recent Transformations in Yemen

The President also addressed the recent transformations in Yemen, which have occurred with generous support from Saudi Arabia. These changes include enhancing the presence of state institutions, normalizing conditions, improving essential services, ensuring timely salary payments, securing commercial imports, and ending the militarization of cities. He stressed the importance of unifying security and military decisions.

Ensuring Security and Stability

President Alimi stated that the narrative of a security vacuum following the completion of parallel arrangements was misleading. He asserted that lasting peace cannot be achieved with multiple decision-making centers. He believes that unifying forces under the Ministries of Defense and Interior is crucial for ensuring security, stability, and the success of any political process.

A Path Toward Recovery

The President affirmed that Yemen is closer to recovery than it has been in years. He noted that international support at this critical juncture could create a strategic difference. He highlighted that Yemen’s stability is vital for the overall stability of the region and its maritime corridors.

Attendees of the Meeting

The meeting also included Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abdu Sharif.
