President Alimi Meets U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin

On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin for a significant discussion.

Key Topics Discussed

The meeting addressed several pressing issues, including local and regional developments. They focused on the humanitarian and economic support necessary for government reforms and strengthening the national currency. Additionally, they discussed ongoing coordination to support law enforcement efforts and combat terrorism.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President Alimi highlighted the notable progress in bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States. He expressed gratitude on behalf of himself and his fellow council members for the firm U.S. stance against militias and their regional backers. He specifically acknowledged the U.S. role in enforcing the ban on Iranian arms smuggled to the Houthi terrorist group, which aims to cut off their funding sources and mitigate threats to Yemen’s security and stability.

Emphasizing U.S. Role in Maritime Security

The President reiterated the importance of continued U.S. involvement in protecting international navigation and weakening terrorist militia capabilities. He pointed out the urgent need for regional and international partnerships with Yemeni state institutions to address shared challenges at all levels.

Human Rights Violations by Houthi Militias

The meeting also touched on the widespread arrests conducted by Houthi militias against United Nations employees and international organizations. The President condemned the severe human rights violations, including targeting Yemeni activists preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the Yemeni revolution.

U.S. Commitment to Yemen

In response, Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the aspirations of the Yemeni people. He praised the economic and financial reforms that have led to the stabilization of the national currency, effectively restricting militia access to both local and global banking systems.

Attendees of the Meeting

The meeting also included Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and Acting U.S. Ambassador Jonathan Pecha.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and the United States in addressing critical issues, including security, economic stability, and human rights.
