On Monday, Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired a Cabinet meeting in Aden. The session focused on the latest political, military, security, economic, and service developments in Yemen, particularly the escalation of Houthi militia activities and Iranian violations of Yemeni sovereignty.
The Cabinet reviewed the implementation of government priorities and the financial and administrative reform program. They discussed measures to enhance economic stability and improve essential services, especially electricity. The government reaffirmed its commitment to meet citizens’ needs, including the timely payment of salaries.
The Cabinet strongly condemned Iran’s blatant violations of Yemen’s sovereignty. The recent direct flight to Sana’a Airport, controlled by the Houthi militia, was highlighted as a severe breach of national sovereignty, international law, and UN Security Council resolutions. This act underscores Iran’s ongoing use of the Houthi militia to further its destabilizing agenda in Yemen and the region.
The Cabinet emphasized that the Houthis’ complete subservience to the Iranian regime and their continuous undermining of peace efforts necessitate a firmer international stance. They called for practical measures to halt Iranian interventions, cut off funding and arms supplies to the militias, and hold accountable those responsible for these violations.
The Cabinet reiterated its full support for the Presidential Leadership Council. They committed to taking all necessary political, diplomatic, and legal actions to protect Yemen’s sovereignty and its exclusive rights to manage its airspace and borders. The Cabinet acknowledged the recent statement from the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen regarding this matter.
The Cabinet praised Saudi Arabia’s supportive stance towards the Yemeni government and its pivotal role in peace efforts. They urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and international partners to fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding regional and international security and to adopt a decisive position against Iranian destabilizing interventions.
The Cabinet condemned the threats issued by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, viewing them as part of a broader strategy to undermine peace efforts and destabilize Yemen and the region. They asserted that these threats pose a direct risk to Arab national security and regional stability, further demonstrating Iran’s use of armed militias as tools to threaten international peace and security.
The Cabinet reviewed a report from the Minister of Defense regarding the ongoing military escalation by the Houthi militia across various fronts. They commended the high readiness and vigilance of the armed forces, security, and national resistance in thwarting the militia’s plans and maintaining security in liberated areas. The Cabinet honored the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in service and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
The government reiterated its full support for military and security institutions, empowering them to fulfill their national duties. They held the Iranian-backed Houthi militia fully responsible for the ongoing military escalation, which prolongs the war and deepens the humanitarian and economic crisis facing the Yemeni people. The Cabinet stressed the need to enhance military readiness and operational coordination to effectively respond to any developments or potential threats.
The Cabinet approved the formation of an Institutional Reform Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, with the Minister of Civil Service and Insurance as Vice-Chair. The committee will include ministers from finance, planning, local administration, legal affairs, and communications. Its goal is to lead and implement a comprehensive institutional reform program to rebuild the civil state apparatus on principles of efficiency, financial sustainability, and good governance.
The Cabinet also approved a multi-sectoral nutrition action plan for 2025-2030 to combat malnutrition in Yemen. The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation will oversee the plan’s implementation, ensuring alignment with national and humanitarian priorities in coordination with relevant ministries and international partners.
The Cabinet discussed the progress made on its action plan over the past months and approved its agenda for the second half of the year. They ratified a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, as well as a memorandum of understanding with the World Federation of Traditional Sports in Istanbul.
The Cabinet also endorsed a technical cooperation agreement in civil aviation between Yemen’s Ministry of Transport and Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics. They received a report from the Deputy Minister of Finance on the completion of the network connection between the Central Bank branch in Marib and the main bank in Aden, part of ongoing efforts to implement financial and economic reforms.
Finally, the Cabinet reviewed a report from the Minister of Industry and Trade regarding the stock of essential food items and the field monitoring campaigns conducted by ministry offices to regulate prices and prevent unjustified monopolies.
This meeting underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues while navigating the complex political landscape shaped by external influences and internal challenges.
