On Sunday evening, Governor Nabil Shamsan of Taiz hosted a significant gathering at the Balqis Hall, where a large number of mourners came to pay their respects following the passing of former President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.
During the condolence reception, which was attended by Dr. Amin Noman, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Governor Shamsan emphasized the remarkable contributions made by the late president. He highlighted Hadi’s adept leadership in steering Yemen towards comprehensive dialogue, which resulted in an unprecedented Yemeni document. This document is regarded as a pivotal moment in modern Yemeni history, establishing a framework for a contemporary Yemeni state that promotes self-governance through local authorities and a federal system.
Former President Hadi led Yemen through a particularly sensitive and challenging period, notably in confronting the Iranian-backed Houthi project. His leadership was bolstered by crucial support from Saudi Arabia, which led the coalition backing Yemen’s legitimacy. This alliance was instrumental in supporting both Hadi and the current President, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. With this backing, Yemen aims to navigate its challenges and realize the aspirations of its citizens for a modern state.
Governor Shamsan articulated Hadi’s steadfast belief in three core principles: the republic, unity, and the federal state. He extended his condolences to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and to the family of the late Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.
The memorial service also featured remarks from local authorities, including a speech by Aref Jamal, the Deputy Governor for Development Affairs. He reflected on the late president’s struggles and national contributions. Additionally, representatives from various political parties in Taiz recognized Hadi’s significant role throughout different phases of Yemen’s history.
This gathering not only honored the memory of a pivotal figure in Yemen’s political landscape but also reinforced the collective hope for a brighter future for the nation.
