Syria Receives 2.2 Million Tons of Wheat This Season

The Syrian Grain Foundation announced that it has received 2.2 million tons of wheat during the current season. This figure marks a significant increase compared to previous years, highlighting improvements in local production and the effectiveness of measures taken to bolster the strategic stockpile.

Introduction of Adra Silos

Ahmad Qadoun, the Deputy General Director of the Foundation, explained that the reactivation of the Adra silos in rural Damascus has significantly enhanced storage capacity. As the largest silo in Syria, Adra can hold up to 200,000 tons of grain. This facility plays a crucial role in accommodating the quantities marketed by farmers.

Maintenance and Expansion Projects

Qadoun noted that the Foundation continues to implement maintenance and rehabilitation projects at other vital facilities to expand storage capacity. These initiatives aim to create optimal conditions for preserving the harvest, ensuring the protection of the strategic stockpile from damage or loss. Through these efforts, the Foundation seeks to improve storage levels and ensure the sustainability of food supplies.

Milling Operations and Flour Supply

Regarding milling operations, Qadoun stated that the Foundation is committed to supplying flour to both public and private bakeries. During the first half of this year, the amount of milled wheat exceeded one million tons. This effort contributes to the stability of flour supplies in various Syrian provinces, reflecting the Foundation’s dedication to meeting local market needs.
