In an ongoing effort to combat the dangers posed by landmines planted by Houthi militias, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has announced the successful removal of 1,273 mines during the fourth week of April. This initiative aims to clear Yemeni lands of explosive remnants and improve living conditions for civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.
According to a statement from the center, the removed mines include 105 anti-tank mines, 3 anti-personnel mines, 1,157 unexploded ordnance, and 8 explosive devices. With this recent clearance, the total number of mines removed in April has now reached 5,818, contributing to an overall total of 557,007 mines cleared since the project’s inception. These explosives were indiscriminately placed across various provinces, resulting in tragic casualties among innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, while instilling a pervasive fear within the local population.
Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continues to intensify efforts to rid Yemeni territories of landmines. This initiative reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring that Yemeni citizens can live dignified and secure lives. The removal of these mines is crucial not only for protecting civilians but also for supporting reconstruction and stability efforts throughout the country.
Project Masam exemplifies the importance of international cooperation in humanitarian relief, striving to ensure public safety and create a secure environment for all citizens. The initiative highlights the necessity for organized and sustainable efforts to eliminate the mines that have caused immense suffering among civilians. Furthermore, it underscores the critical role of partnerships between nations and humanitarian organizations in achieving meaningful humanitarian goals in Yemen.
