Strengthening Partnerships for Refugee Support

ADEN, Yemen – Today, Major General Dr. Tarek bin Omer Al-Nasi, head of the Immigration, Passports, and Nationality Authority, emphasized the critical importance of enhancing collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). This partnership is aimed at improving services for refugees and streamlining processes related to asylum issues.

Meeting Highlights

During a significant meeting held in the temporary capital of Aden, Al-Nasi engaged with a delegation from UNHCR to discuss potential areas of joint cooperation. The discussions centered on strengthening coordination regarding refugee matters, where both parties expressed their commitment to enhancing the management of refugee issues and improving the quality of services provided to this vulnerable population.

Key Areas of Focus

The two sides explored various aspects of technical and humanitarian support that UNHCR offers. A particular emphasis was placed on updating refugee registration procedures and facilitating access to essential services for refugees. Furthermore, they discussed enhancing institutional capacities to effectively address the growing challenges in this sector.

In his remarks, Al-Nasi highlighted the necessity for integrated efforts to confront humanitarian challenges. He underscored the importance of adhering to national legal frameworks alongside relevant international agreements. UNHCR’s Commitment

Laizi Amaral Farias, the UNHCR representative, along with Fayed Baqtiyan, the refugee registration officer, presented key programs and projects that UNHCR implements to support refugees in Yemen. They reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to expanding cooperation, enhancing technical support, and improving protection mechanisms and services.
