During a meeting on Sunday in the temporary capital of Aden, Prime Minister bin Mubarak discussed the strategy with Major General Khaled Al-Qamli, the head of the Coast Guard. Al-Qamli outlined the objectives of the strategy and emphasized its role in strengthening the Coast Guard’s capabilities to safeguard Yemen’s territorial waters and combat smuggling activities.
Prime Minister bin Mubarak expressed his hope for support from the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, along with Yemen’s friends and allies. He urged these partners to assist in implementing the strategy and to back the government’s efforts to enhance maritime security and the efficiency of personnel. Given Yemen’s strategic location, he highlighted its importance for the security and stability of the region and the protection of international shipping routes. He directed the Minister of Interior to collaborate with the Coast Guard leadership to execute the strategy and achieve its intended goals.
The meeting also reviewed the current state of the Coast Guard, including efforts to improve and develop its performance. The Prime Minister acknowledged the achievements made so far and discussed ongoing initiatives to elevate the Coast Guard’s operational and security capabilities in protecting Yemen’s territorial waters.
Prime Minister bin Mubarak underscored the necessity of enhancing international cooperation and partnerships to support the Coast Guard’s capabilities in addressing challenges. He noted the vital role of the Yemeni Coast Guard in safeguarding ports, coastlines, and territorial waters.
The meeting also included the presence of the Prime Minister’s advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman, who contributed to discussions on the strategic direction and collaborative efforts needed for the Coast Guard’s development.
