Prime Minister Approves Comprehensive Strategy for Coast Guard Capacity Building

In a significant move to enhance maritime security, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has approved a comprehensive strategy aimed at building the capacities of Yemen’s Coast Guard. This strategy includes advanced training programs and modern equipment to bolster the Coast Guard’s readiness in protecting Yemen’s coasts and islands, as well as combating various maritime threats in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Meeting Highlights Strategic Goals

During a meeting on Sunday in the temporary capital of Aden, Prime Minister bin Mubarak discussed the strategy with Major General Khaled Al-Qamli, the head of the Coast Guard. Al-Qamli outlined the objectives of the strategy and emphasized its role in strengthening the Coast Guard’s capabilities to safeguard Yemen’s territorial waters and combat smuggling activities.

Call for International Support

Prime Minister bin Mubarak expressed his hope for support from the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, along with Yemen’s friends and allies. He urged these partners to assist in implementing the strategy and to back the government’s efforts to enhance maritime security and the efficiency of personnel. Given Yemen’s strategic location, he highlighted its importance for the security and stability of the region and the protection of international shipping routes. He directed the Minister of Interior to collaborate with the Coast Guard leadership to execute the strategy and achieve its intended goals.

The meeting also reviewed the current state of the Coast Guard, including efforts to improve and develop its performance. The Prime Minister acknowledged the achievements made so far and discussed ongoing initiatives to elevate the Coast Guard’s operational and security capabilities in protecting Yemen’s territorial waters.
