On Saturday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, convened with the Yemeni delegation attending the 2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The meeting included key figures such as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, Central Bank Governor Ahmed Ghaleb, Minister of Finance Marwan Bin Ghanem, and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba.
During the session, President Alimi received comprehensive updates from the delegation members regarding the outcomes of the Spring Meetings held in Washington. He expressed appreciation for the significant results achieved and noted the favorable impressions left by Yemen’s partners and the donor community regarding the government’s performance under Prime Minister Al-Zandani. Alimi emphasized the tangible progress in economic, financial, and administrative reforms, which have bolstered Yemen’s credibility as a serious and responsible partner on the international stage.
President Alimi particularly welcomed the renewed communication and collaboration with the IMF and various funding institutions. He stated that this development signifies Yemen’s return to a structured international support framework and demonstrates the government’s ability to manage donor commitments effectively. The President attributed the improvement in Yemen’s international standing to the diligent efforts of the government and the Central Bank in stabilizing financial and monetary policies.
In his remarks, President Alimi stressed the necessity of maintaining these gains through exceptional performance and continuous advancement. He cautioned that any regression in reforms or inconsistencies in economic decision-making could jeopardize the achievements made within a short timeframe. The President underscored the need to transition from merely rebuilding trust to solidifying partnerships with the international community, calling for the government to implement its program while ensuring transparency in resource management.
President Alimi reiterated that the effective management of public resources and their responsible utilization for citizens is the true measure of the government’s success. He called for addressing imbalances, maximizing sovereign revenues, and preventing any misallocation of resources outside established legal frameworks. Additionally, he reaffirmed his directives to provincial governors regarding the closure of accounts outside the Central Bank, highlighting the importance of enhancing governance and institutional oversight.
To combat corruption and establish a model government in the liberated provinces, President Alimi directed the activation of oversight bodies and the automation of financial processes. He noted that the improved international presence and restored trust with financial institutions are closely linked to the sincere support received from Saudi Arabia. The President acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in stabilizing Yemen’s national economy and securing essential funding for vital services, which has significantly bolstered the government’s reform efforts.
As Yemen navigates its path toward recovery and stability, President Alimi’s engagement with the Yemeni delegation at the Washington Spring Meetings underscores the government’s commitment to reform and international cooperation. By focusing on responsible governance and effective resource management, Yemen aims to solidify its partnerships and enhance its standing within the global community.
