Palestinian and Israeli organizations urge the G7 summit to take action to preserve the two-state solution.

Palestinian and Israeli Civil Organizations Urge G7 Leaders to Act on Two-State Solution

Palestinian and Israeli civil organizations have issued a joint call to G7 leaders, urging them to take immediate action to preserve the two-state solution. They warned that the window for this resolution “remains open but is narrowing” amid ongoing conflict and political tensions on the ground.

Urgent Call During Paris Meeting

This appeal emerged during a meeting held in Paris, just ahead of the upcoming summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. The meeting featured key attendees, including EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas, along with ministers from Brazil, Canada, the UAE, and Turkey.

Organizations’ Demands for Conflict Resolution

The organizations presented an eight-point action plan, which includes:

  • A permanent ceasefire.
  • Resumption of the political process.
  • A halt to settlement expansion.
  • Support for practical steps to revive the two-state solution.

In their statement, the organizations emphasized that both Palestinians and Israelis are “trapped in fear, insecurity, and psychological trauma.” They highlighted the urgent need for diplomacy in partnership with civil society.

Israeli Government’s Stance and Challenges

The organizations noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, regarded as one of the most right-wing in Israel’s history, strongly opposes the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. This administration actively undermines the two-state solution, complicating the situation further.

International Support for the Two-State Solution

In related developments, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot reaffirmed France’s commitment to the two-state solution, indicating that this year could be pivotal. Additionally, France, the UK, Canada, and other nations recognized the State of Palestine last year, marking a significant shift from traditional Western policy.
