The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a stark warning on Saturday regarding the potential dangers of Israel’s plans to evict Palestinian residents from the northern Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the ministry highlighted the severe implications of the Israeli occupation’s move to evacuate Palestinians from the area. It described this action as a precursor to annexing the sector and initiating settlements, posing a serious threat to displacing Palestinian citizens by confining them to a restricted zone.
The ministry also pointed out that the “brutal” Israeli bombardment of Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza is an attempt to divide the sector into three isolated parts. This strategy, it argued, is part of a broader Israeli effort to consolidate its control over the territory.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry accused the ruling Israeli right-wing of mobilizing all its resources to destabilize the West Bank. The goal, according to the ministry, is to facilitate its annexation to Israel and undermine the Palestinian Authority. The ministry lamented the international community’s failure to halt what it terms a “war of extermination and displacement,” which allows the Israeli government the necessary time to execute its colonial plans in the West Bank and Gaza.
The ministry underscored the significance of implementing the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion through the adoption of enforcement mechanisms by the United Nations General Assembly. It argued that imposing international sanctions on Israel is crucial to compel the country to cease its “aggression” and adhere to international law and the court’s orders.
According to a report last week by Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli military is considering a plan to evacuate the remaining Palestinian residents in northern Gaza through safe corridors determined by Israel’s security apparatus. This move aims to increase pressure on Hamas. The newspaper noted that approximately 300,000 Palestinians still live in the northern part of the sector. The plan intends to transform the entire area, from north of the Netzarim corridor and all neighborhoods of Gaza City, into a closed military zone.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry’s warning sheds light on the escalating situation in Gaza, urging international intervention to prevent potential humanitarian and geopolitical crises.
