Emergency operations launched to protect Wadi Bana bridges in Abyan from flood damage.

Emergency Interventions Begin to Protect Wadi Bana Bridges in Abyan from Flood Damage

In a significant move to mitigate the impact of floods, emergency intervention work has commenced on the bridges of Wadi Bana, located on the ring road in Zinjibar, Abyan province. The Public Corporation for Roads and Bridges is spearheading this crucial project, with funding and oversight provided by the Road and Bridge Maintenance Fund.

Safeguarding Infrastructure Against Nature’s Fury

The emergency intervention efforts at Wadi Bana’s bridges include the construction of scour protection walls at both the entrance and exit of the surface bridge. Additionally, the project focuses on restoring the concrete slabs swept away by the torrential rains that have affected Abyan and several other provinces. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to protect vital infrastructure from the devastating effects of natural disasters, ensuring the safety and continuity of transportation networks.

A Commitment to Restoration and Safety

Abbas Saleh, the General Director of Emergency Maintenance at the Road Fund, emphasized the significance of these emergency works. He highlighted their role in bringing the surface bridges of Wadi Bana, which suffered extensive damage due to the floods, back to operational readiness. Ensuring the safe resumption of traffic flow on the valley road is a top priority, reflecting the commitment to maintaining crucial infrastructure and safeguarding the well-being of the community.

The start of emergency intervention work to protect the Wadi Bana bridges from flood damage marks a proactive step towards disaster resilience in Abyan. By reinforcing these critical structures, authorities aim to minimize future disruptions and ensure the safety of the region’s inhabitants and their livelihoods.
