In a stern rebuke, a responsible source from the Presidential Office condemned the grave violations perpetrated by the Houthi militias against the judiciary’s independence, a principle safeguarded by the constitution, national, and international legislation.
The source highlighted that the terrorist militias’ initiative to propose what they call a “project to amend the judicial authority law” starkly violates the judiciary’s independence and impartiality. This action is part of their systematic targeting of rights and freedoms enshrined in the constitution, national laws, and international treaties and conventions.
According to the source, these destructive measures coincide with the anniversary of the September 26 Revolution, representing a blatant defiance of the Yemeni people’s will. The Yemeni people have made numerous sacrifices defending the republican system and its national gains, and have forever rejected the imamate and theocratic regime.
The militias aim to consolidate the dominance of a specific faction of their followers over the usurped institutions, especially the judiciary. They intend to do this by limiting appointments to graduates of their religious schools and loyalists to their sectarian and destructive project, sidelining honorable justice officials and lawyers defending rights and freedoms. These actions replace them with legal representatives tasked with executing their agenda, turning the judiciary into a tool for extortion and terrorizing opponents of their coup project.
The source emphasized the rejection of this provocative step, affirming its illegitimacy as it originates from criminal insurgent militias without any legal standing over the independent judiciary.
The Presidential Office’s denouncement of the Houthi militia’s actions underscores a critical stance against the undermining of judicial independence, highlighting the broader conflict’s impact on Yemen’s legal and constitutional framework.
