Erlichson Pasaribu, head of North Halmahera Police, reported that the victims included two foreigners and a local resident from Ternate Island. The eruption produced a loud explosion and generated a thick plume of smoke that rose approximately 10 kilometers above the volcano’s summit in North Maluku Province, alarming both climbers and local residents.

Lana Saria, head of the Geological Agency, indicated that volcanic ash is drifting northward, prompting warnings for residents, particularly in the city of Tobelo, regarding the dangers of ashfall. Volcanic Alert Level

Mount Dukono is currently under a level three alert status, the second highest on Indonesia’s four-tier volcanic alert system. Since December, the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) has advised against approaching within 4 kilometers of the Malupang and Ariyang craters.
