Ministry of Industry and Trade Reports 46 Violations During Eid al-Adha Regulatory Campaigns

Overview of Regulatory Campaigns

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has released the findings of its recent regulatory and inspection campaigns conducted before and after the Eid al-Adha holiday across several liberated provinces. The ministry confirmed the identification of at least 46 commercial and supply violations, reinforcing its dedication to consumer protection, market regulation, and price stability.

Intensive Inspections Across Multiple Provinces

According to a media report from the ministry, local offices intensified their efforts to safeguard consumers and regulate market practices during the festive season. The inspections focused on the provinces of Aden, Lahij, Taiz, Hadramout, Al-Mahra, Socotra, Al-Dhale, Abyan, Shabwa, and Marib. The ministry collaborated with local authorities, security agencies, and relevant judicial bodies to oversee market stability, ensure the availability of essential goods, and enforce compliance with price disclosure regulations.

Violations Noted in Aden

Aden recorded the highest number of violations, totaling 23. These comprised 13 instances of failure to disclose prices, six cases of unjustified price increases, and two violations concerning the sale of expired products. Authorities also confiscated bottled water of unknown origin and identified a pricing violation at a water factory.

Continued Monitoring in Aden

Field reports indicate that inspections in Aden remain ongoing, targeting restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, and various commercial establishments. The ministry has implemented measures to seize non-compliant goods and products of unknown origin. Additionally, they are closely monitoring gas supplies and essential goods while addressing citizen complaints.

Reported Violations in Socotra and Taiz

Socotra followed with 12 recorded violations, including 10 related to expired products and two instances of price hikes. In Taiz, inspectors reported seven violations, including two pricing infractions at butcher shops and additional violations concerning price disclosures in candy, nut, spice, and grocery markets.

Ongoing Vigilance and Minor Violations

The ministry highlighted that the regulatory campaigns remained active throughout the holiday period, resulting in several offenders being referred to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s prosecution office. Citizens are encouraged to report any violations through designated operation rooms.

In Lahij, inspectors recorded three violations related to official pricing at butcher shops, while Al-Dhale reported one pricing violation at a butcher shop. Inspections also continued to monitor markets, fuel stations, and gas supplies to ensure adherence to pricing regulations.

Stability Observed in Other Provinces

Conversely, several provinces, including Hadramout, Al-Mahra, Abyan, Shabwa, and Marib, reported no confirmed violations during the inspection period. Efforts in these areas focused on market monitoring, responding to complaints, ensuring product safety, and maintaining the supply of essential goods.

Common Violations and Public Health Risks

The report identified that the most frequent violations involved failure to disclose prices, unjustified price increases, and the sale of expired products. These findings highlight the necessity for stricter regulatory measures, particularly during high-demand seasons. Some violations, especially those related to food safety, pose direct risks to public health, underscoring the need for ongoing inspections in the food, beverage, and bottled water sectors.

Conclusion: Reinforcing Consumer Protection

In conclusion, the report affirms the effectiveness of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s field presence in liberated provinces. It stresses the significance of continuing regulatory campaigns during festive seasons and beyond, enhancing price control measures, ensuring product safety, and preventing consumer exploitation.
