Ministry of Human Rights Denounces Houthi Militias’ Violations Against Taiz Civilians

The Ministry of Human Rights has issued a strong condemnation of the ongoing and severe violations perpetrated by Houthi militias against civilians in the Taiz Governorate. Between April 5 and April 8, 2026, the region was marked by four violent incidents, including three sniper attacks and extensive shelling targeting residential areas. This escalation of violence reflects a blatant disregard for civilian lives.

Documented Violations and Casualties

In its recent statement, the Ministry reported that its team has documented a series of egregious crimes resulting from the actions of Houthi forces. These violations led to significant injuries, including that of 62-year-old Shifa Hatim Ali Rashid, as well as the tragic deaths of multiple individuals. Among the deceased are 13-year-old Ibrahim Jalal Amin Ahmed, 14-year-old Khalid Walid Mohammed, and 70-year-old Mohammed Farhan Ali Abdullah, who succumbed to his injuries following the attacks. These incidents occurred within areas that remain under Houthi control.

Systematic Targeting of Civilians and Call for International Action

The Ministry emphasized that these acts are indicative of a systematic pattern aimed at targeting civilians, constituting a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. Such actions could potentially amount to serious crimes against humanity. The ongoing violence not only undermines peace efforts but also perpetuates military escalation in the region.

In light of these troubling developments, the Ministry of Human Rights is calling upon the international community and the United Nations Security Council to adopt clear and decisive measures against these violations. It urges immediate action to halt these abuses and to ensure accountability for the perpetrators. Additionally, the Ministry appeals to the UN envoy to Yemen to fulfill his responsibilities and take concrete steps toward protecting civilians.

Reaffirming its commitment to justice and accountability, the Ministry of Human Rights continues to monitor and document violations while collaborating with partners to support victims. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure that those responsible for these atrocities face appropriate consequences.
