The Special Operations Team of the "Masam" project, dedicated to mine clearance in Yemen, successfully conducted a significant operation to destroy a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the Dofas area of Abyan Governorate.
In a press release on its official website, "Masam" reported that the destruction operation involved a total of 5,173 pieces of various munitions. This included 21 shells of 152 mm caliber, 31 armor-piercing shells of 85 mm caliber, and 102 armor-piercing projectiles. Additionally, the team disposed of 2,400 rounds of MNMI type ammunition, 500 rounds of .50 caliber, and 152 MK rounds. The operation also included the destruction of 1,440 rounds of 7.62 mm caliber and 371 assorted fuses.
Furthermore, the team eliminated 43 shells of 75 mm caliber, 6 anti-tank mines, 17 anti-personnel mines, 46 hand grenades, and 44 82 mm mortar shells.
Since its inception, the field teams of the "Masam" project have made remarkable progress. As of May 9, they have successfully cleared 493,256 landmines, unexploded munitions, and improvised explosive devices from various liberated provinces. This ongoing effort highlights the commitment to ensuring safety and stability in Yemen.
The recent operation in Abyan underscores the critical work being done to eliminate the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance. The "Masam" project continues to play a vital role in promoting peace and security in the region, demonstrating the importance of international cooperation in humanitarian efforts.
