The Houthi militia has now entered its fifth day of detaining four children from the Dhaleema Habour district in Amran Governorate. Authorities accuse the children of firing gunshots during a welcome ceremony for their relatives returning from the Hajj pilgrimage.
Local sources report that the militia abducted the children—Mo’taz Adel Ghawwas (11 years old), Hareth Hamoud Ghawwas (11 years old), Haza Abdullah Al-Qadi (12 years old), and Shaib Abdullah Faqih (13 years old)—from the village of Jabal Ghawwas on June 4. This incident has sparked widespread outrage among local residents.
Residents accuse militia members of exerting pressure and extortion on the families of the detained children. Reports indicate that the militia demands financial payments for their release or insists that families send a relative to fight on the front lines for the group.
Community members express disbelief over the militia’s justification for the abduction, especially given that militia fighters openly fire weapons in celebration of what they call Ghadir Day. Activists view this as a clear example of double standards.
Activists and human rights organizations are urging authorities to secure the immediate release of the children. They warn of the potential psychological and social consequences that could arise from prolonged detention.
The situation remains tense as the community continues to demand justice and accountability from the Houthi militia.
