Information Minister condemns Houthi militia’s seizure of civilian lands in Al-Yawmin village, Hodeidah province.

Yemeni Minister Condemns Houthi Militia's Land Seizures in Al-Hudaydah

Al-Hudaydah, Yemen – Mua’mar al-Eryani, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, has vehemently condemned the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s forceful encroachment and land seizure in the village of Al-Yomin, located in the Al-Maraw’ah district of Al-Hudaydah governorate. The operation, led by a figure known as Abu Taha Al-Madani, involved armed aggression to confiscate extensive areas of land.

A Pattern of Aggression

In a press statement, al-Eryani detailed how the Houthi militia’s actions, including the savage assault on residents who resisted the bulldozing of their lands, are part of a broader pattern of looting, forced displacement, and other violations perpetrated against the people of Tihama since their coup against the state. This recent act adds to the militia’s extensive record of crimes and violations.

Al-Eryani pointed out that the Houthi militia has previously engaged in the forceful looting of lands and farms in various districts within Al-Hudaydah, including Al-Maraw’ah, Al-Luhayyah, Bajil, and several others, turning them into private investments, military sites, and launching points for threatening international trade and navigation.

The Cost of the Stockholm Agreement

The minister emphasized the heavy toll the people of Tihama in Al-Hudaydah have been paying since the Stockholm Agreement, which the Houthi militia has failed to adhere to. Instead, they have exploited the agreement to consolidate their control, expand their criminal activities, and forcibly displace residents, all while posing a threat to commercial shipping and oil tankers in international waters.

International Silence and Calls for Action

Al-Eryani expressed his astonishment at the silence of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), tasked with monitoring the agreement’s implementation, and their passive stance towards the daily crimes committed by the Houthi militia against the people of Tihama. He urged the international community, the United Nations, the UN Special Envoy, and UNMHA to take a clear stand against these heinous crimes, to immediately classify the Houthi militia as a global terrorist organization, to cut off their financial, political, and media support, and to back the government’s efforts to regain control over Yemen’s territory.

The minister’s condemnation highlights the ongoing struggle and suffering of Yemen’s citizens in the face of Houthi aggression, calling for urgent international action to address the situation.
