Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani condemned the Houthi militia’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He stated that the assault, which resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians from various nationalities, does not represent a military achievement. Instead, it constitutes a terrorist act targeting human lives and civil aviation security. This incident further highlights the militia’s disregard for humanitarian values and international laws.
Al-Eryani emphasized that the strength of terrorist groups does not lie in their ability to kill innocents. He pointed out that crimes do not transform into victories simply by changing their labels. He stressed that civilian airports are not war zones and that the lives of travelers should not serve as bargaining chips in political negotiations. Attacking civilians does not grant legitimacy to the perpetrators nor does it create a victory for them.
The minister noted that Saudi Arabia possesses the capabilities, resources, and established institutions necessary to protect its security and sovereignty. He affirmed the kingdom’s ability to respond to any aggression targeting its territory and the safety of its citizens and residents. Al-Eryani remarked that terrorism inherently poses a transnational threat, with risks extending beyond the targeted state.
Al-Eryani added that targeting an international airport directly threatens the global civil aviation system and the safety of millions of travelers. He insisted that this attack should not be viewed as an isolated incident but rather as a serious indicator of what could happen when armed groups gain advanced military capabilities and external support, allowing them to continue their actions without accountability.
He warned against merely issuing statements of condemnation without taking serious international measures to hold those responsible for such attacks accountable and to prevent their recurrence. Al-Eryani pointed out that ignoring the entities involved in arming these groups encourages the repetition of crimes and expands the threat to other countries and communities.
Al-Eryani affirmed that the brotherly ties and strategic interests between Yemen and Saudi Arabia make the security and stability of both nations a shared responsibility. He clarified that Yemen’s security is inseparable from that of Saudi Arabia, and their safety is an integral part of regional security and stability, which includes protecting maritime routes, airspace, and international trade.
The minister reiterated full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, its leadership, government, and people, strongly condemning this terrorist attack. He expressed confidence in the kingdom’s ability to safeguard its security and sovereignty.
Al-Eryani called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council and relevant civil aviation organizations, to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities. He urged them to take practical steps to hold the perpetrators and their supporters accountable and to work towards preventing future attacks. He emphasized that the security of civil airports and the safety of travelers is a shared international responsibility.
