In a troubling incident, Houthi militias stormed the home of Abdullah Shanaab Hadees in the Al-Somaa district of Al-Bayda province early Saturday morning. This action followed Hadees’s protest against the militia’s seizure and misuse of his vehicle during a previous detention.
Human rights activist Ishraq Al-Maqtari reported that a Houthi-led operation surrounded Hadees’s home around midnight on December 27. The militia not only invaded the residence but also ransacked its contents before transferring Hadees to the central prison in Al-Bayda city. Al-Maqtari noted that these violations occurred after Hadees set his vehicle on fire in a desperate act of defiance against its theft and the militia’s use of it during his week-long detention.
The militia initially detained Hadees on December 20, suspecting him of communicating with individuals involved in an ambush targeting the director of Al-Somaa. He was released the previous Friday, only to face re-arrest shortly thereafter.
Al-Bayda province continues to experience widespread violations attributed to Houthi militias. Human rights reports indicate that over 13,000 violations have been documented since the onset of the conflict. This alarming trend raises concerns about the safety and rights of local residents.
