Meeting Overview
Today, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mohammed Al-Faqmi. The meeting aimed to review the ministry’s plans and programs, as well as its priorities for the upcoming phase.
Congratulations and Support for New Minister
At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Mahrimi congratulated Al-Faqmi on his recent appointment as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation. He expressed his best wishes for the minister’s success in his new role. Al-Mahrimi emphasized the ministry’s critical role in setting national priorities, strengthening Yemen’s relationships with regional and international partners, and promoting the government’s economic reform agenda.
Enhancing International Partnerships
Al-Mahrimi stressed the need to elevate the ministry’s role in managing Yemen’s relationships with international partners. He highlighted the importance of maximizing the benefits from available grants and funding. Additionally, he called for efforts to mobilize additional resources to support economic reform programs, recovery, and development. Strengthening state institutions’ capacity to implement priorities in the coming phase remains essential.
Coordination with International Financial Institutions
The member of the Presidential Leadership Council pointed out the importance of ongoing coordination with international financial institutions. He urged the ministry to leverage support programs and technical expertise offered by these institutions. This collaboration will aid the government’s efforts to address economic challenges, improve public resource management, and enhance recovery and development opportunities.
Acknowledgment of Saudi Support
Al-Mahrimi praised the generous and continuous support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the government’s reform program. This support includes assistance for the public budget, ensuring timely payment of employee salaries, and improving basic services. Furthermore, it encompasses funding for developmental and humanitarian programs across various sectors.
Transitioning to Sustainable Recovery Planning
The council member emphasized the need to gradually shift from managing emergency needs to planning for recovery and reconstruction. He called for identifying priority projects and focusing on sectors that enhance community resilience and improve living standards. Key areas of focus include education, health, water, electricity, food security, livelihoods, and essential infrastructure.
Support for Displaced Populations
Al-Mahrimi underscored the necessity of directing a significant portion of international cooperation efforts toward supporting displaced individuals and the most affected groups by the war. He advocated for enhancing services in host areas and transitioning aid from emergency responses to more sustainable solutions. These solutions should provide education, healthcare, job opportunities, and dignified livelihoods.
This meeting marks a significant step toward strengthening Yemen’s international partnerships and advancing the government’s reform initiatives.
