Foreign Minister Meets with Qatar Development Fund Director
Today, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Fahd Al-Sulaiti, the Director General of the Qatar Development Fund. The two officials discussed ways to enhance developmental and humanitarian cooperation, focusing on supporting recovery and development efforts in Yemen.
Appreciation for Qatari Support
Minister Al-Zuba expressed gratitude for the support provided by Qatar and the Qatar Development Fund to the Yemeni people. She highlighted the significant contributions of Qatari projects in various vital sectors, which have improved essential services across the country.
A Shift Towards Sustainable Development
The Yemeni government aims to build on this foundation. Al-Zuba emphasized the need to transition from emergency response to a more sustainable developmental partnership. This approach will support economic recovery and strengthen state institutions, promoting self-reliance. Current priorities include electricity, water, health, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and capacity building.
Priority Projects Discussed
During the meeting, both parties reviewed several priority projects. Key initiatives included the completion of the Batiss-Rad road project and support for the electricity sector in the temporary capital, Aden. They also discussed various developmental projects in critical sectors and explored ways to advance these initiatives in coordination with relevant government agencies.
Leveraging Development Financing Expertise
The two sides examined opportunities to utilize the Qatar Development Fund’s expertise and financial tools to support economic recovery. They considered potential support for Yemen’s banking sector, aiming to enhance its capacity to finance economic activities and developmental projects. This support could stimulate investment and contribute to the overall recovery process.
Commitment to Ongoing Collaboration
Fahd Al-Sulaiti reaffirmed the Qatar Development Fund’s commitment to continue collaborating with the Yemeni government. He emphasized the fund’s role in supporting recovery and development efforts, which aim to improve living conditions for the Yemeni people.
Future Coordination on Development Projects
Both parties agreed to maintain coordination and follow up on priority projects, reinforcing the developmental partnership between Yemen and Qatar.

The meeting also included Oussan Al-Awd, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Financial and Administrative Affairs, and Rajeh Badi, Yemen’s Ambassador to Qatar.
