Surge in Cancer Cases Reported in Al Hudaydah, Yemen

The National Cancer Control Foundation in Al Hudaydah, Yemen, announced today that the region recorded 563 new cancer cases in 2024. This alarming statistic highlights the ongoing health crisis in the area.

Breakdown of New Cases

Abdul Majid Ahmed, the media officer for the foundation’s local branch, confirmed the figures. He noted that among the new cases, 61 were reported in December alone. The distribution of these cases reveals a concerning trend: 328 cases involved women, 201 involved men, and 34 involved children.

Rising Total of Cancer Patients

With this latest data, the total number of cancer patients in Al Hudaydah has reached 8,466. According to the foundation’s statistics, the cumulative number of cancer cases by the end of 2023 stood at 7,903. This increase underscores the urgent need for enhanced cancer care and prevention strategies in the region.

National Context

In related news, Dr. Qassem Baheeb, Yemen’s Minister of Health, revealed in a press conference on Monday that the country records approximately 30,000 new cancer cases annually. He emphasized that the spread of cancer has reached critical levels, significantly impacting the healthcare sector, which already faces numerous challenges due to the ongoing conflict.

Dr. Baheeb stressed the importance of adhering to preventive measures against this devastating disease. He urged the community to prioritize health and wellness to combat the rising cancer rates effectively.
