On Tuesday, Houthi militias kidnapped a resident from the Anas district in Dhamar province. This incident occurred after the armed group stormed his home and surrounded the area. The abduction follows closely on the heels of another kidnapping involving an imam from a mosque in Ibb province just three days earlier.
Sources indicate that militia members forcibly entered the home of Mohsen Ali Hussein Najy Muwaida in the Al-Manar area of Anas. They took him to an undisclosed location without informing his family about the reasons for the abduction or his whereabouts. This lack of communication has raised significant concerns among the local community.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern. Just days prior, the Houthi militias kidnapped an imam from the Hanzal Mosque in the Al-Sadah district of Ibb. The imam’s fate remains uncertain, heightening fears among residents regarding the safety of those who have been abducted.
Currently, over 100 individuals remain in detention in Houthi-run prisons across Dhamar and Ibb provinces. Many of these detainees have been missing for an extended period, with their families receiving no updates about their conditions or locations.
The human rights organization, Dhamar Rights Platform, has documented 150 cases of abduction carried out by the militias in Ibb over the past 15 months. They have also revealed the existence of secret prisons managed by Houthi leaders in the region. Additionally, the Yemeni Rights Network reported 83 abductions in just five months, alongside 342 instances of home raids and 18 cases of theft.
The recent kidnappings in Dhamar and Ibb highlight a growing trend of violence and human rights violations perpetrated by Houthi militias. As the situation escalates, local communities remain on high alert, fearing for the safety of their loved ones.
