Houthi complicity leads to the escape of prisoners from the central prison in Ibb.

Four Inmates Escape from Houthi-Controlled Prison in Yemen

Recent reports reveal that four inmates, facing criminal charges, have escaped from a prison operated by the Houthi militia in Ibb Governorate, Yemen. This incident raises serious concerns about security and potential collusion within the militia.

Details of the Escape

Sources indicate that the prisoners fled from the detention center to an unknown location. There are growing suspicions regarding the involvement of militia members in facilitating this escape. The frequency of such incidents in Ibb has alarmed local communities, as numerous inmates have previously managed to escape from prisons, courts, and even during hospital transfers. This pattern suggests a troubling level of complicity among militia officials.

Recent Violence Linked to Escaped Inmates

This escape follows a violent incident just two days prior, where one of the escaped inmates, aided by a Houthi leader, allegedly killed a civilian and injured another in the town of Al-Qaidah, located in the Dhay Sufal district of Ibb. Eyewitness accounts confirm that a man named Samir Ghanem was killed, while another individual sustained injuries from gunfire directed by a suspect identified as Diaa Mahdi. The assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Allegations of Corruption and Collusion

According to multiple sources, a Houthi-appointed security chief in Dhay Sufal orchestrated the release of the assailant from the militia-controlled Ibb prison approximately two months ago. This release appears to be part of a dubious arrangement, allowing the suspect to be transferred to the security office in Al-Qaidah. Following this transfer, the suspect escaped alongside others just a day later.

Targeted Violence Against Civilians

Reports suggest that the escape and subsequent violence stem from a conspiracy involving militia leaders and the escaped inmate. The victim, who worked as a tax collector in Dhay Sufal, had no known disputes with the assailant, indicating that the attack may have been premeditated and part of a broader agenda targeting civilians in the region.

The escape of these inmates and the violent aftermath highlight significant issues within the security framework in Houthi-controlled areas. As the situation develops, local authorities and communities remain on high alert, demanding accountability and transparency from militia leaders to prevent further incidents.
