Yemen and India Explore Enhanced Healthcare Cooperation

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

In a significant meeting held in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh, the Minister of Public Health and Population, engaged in discussions with Sohail Ajaz Khan, the Indian Ambassador to Yemen. The focus of their dialogue was on identifying ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector. Minister Buhaibeh praised the strong relationship between the two friendly nations, highlighting the support India has extended to Yemen’s health sector. He emphasized the importance of opening new avenues for collaboration, particularly in areas of training, qualification, and the renewal of previous agreements to institutionalize training and medical scholarships.

Investment and Development Initiatives

Minister Buhaibeh, accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Al-Kamal, Deputy Minister for Planning, and Dr. Shawqi Al-Sharjabi, Deputy Minister for Therapeutic Medicine, expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in pharmaceutical manufacturing, noting India’s leading position as Yemen’s primary source of pharmaceuticals. Additionally, they discussed the potential for establishing investment-driven hospitals in Aden and other provinces to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services.

India’s Supportive Response

The Indian Ambassador, Sohail Ajaz Khan, showed a deep understanding of the issues raised by Minister Buhaibeh and committed to examining and acting upon them. This meeting underscores the mutual interest of both nations in advancing healthcare cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to improving the well-being of their populations.

This development marks a promising step forward in the healthcare collaboration between Yemen and India, with both parties looking forward to tangible outcomes from their discussions.
