Head of Leadership Council Welcomes US Ambassador

In a significant diplomatic engagement on Wednesday, Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the United States Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagen, to discuss the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis.

Addressing Houthi Escalation and Human Rights Violations

The meeting focused on the continuous escalation of terrorism by the Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime, and their severe violations of human rights. The discussions underscored the urgent need to address these issues, which have exacerbated the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Diplomatic Efforts and Regional Peace Initiatives

President Al-Alimi received updates from Ambassador Fagen on recent diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation in Yemen and the region. They explored options to encourage the Houthi militias to engage seriously with regional and international efforts to end the suffering of the Yemeni people and halt their destructive actions against the remaining state institutions.

International Coordination and Development Interventions

The talks also covered coordinated efforts with the international community to secure the release of United Nations staff and civil society leaders kidnapped by the Houthi militias. Additionally, they discussed developmental interventions, including the protection of Yemen’s cultural heritage.

Commitment to Peace and International Support

President Al-Alimi reiterated the council and government’s commitment to a just peace process based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed references, particularly United Nations Resolution 2216. He emphasized the importance of integrating all efforts in this regard with the initiatives of Saudi Arabia to launch a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

U.S. Efforts to Alleviate Humanitarian Suffering

The President praised the United States for its significant efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people and enhance international mechanisms for intercepting Iranian weapon shipments that threaten international peace and security.

The meeting, which also saw the attendance of the Director of the Presidential Leadership Council’s Office, General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, marks a crucial step in international diplomatic engagements aimed at resolving the Yemeni crisis and restoring peace and stability to the region.
