Govt meeting led by the Prime Minister approves the launch of Starlink satellite internet service.
Yemen to Launch Starlink Internet Services
In a significant move to enhance internet connectivity, the Yemeni government, led by Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, approved the launch of Starlink satellite internet services in Yemen during a meeting held in the temporary capital, Aden, on Tuesday.
Comprehensive Internet Solutions through Starlink
The government meeting reviewed a report from the Public Telecommunications Corporation detailing the license agreement with Starlink. This agreement outlines the services to be provided, positioning the Corporation as an authorized agent for Starlink in Yemen. The completion of all procedures related to the launch of Starlink services in Yemen promises to offer high-quality internet at competitive prices to all segments of the population.
Expanding Access across the Nation
The meeting, which saw participation from the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Bathib, acting as the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and the Minister of Finance, Salem bin Breik, highlighted the imminent rollout of Starlink services. The services will be available through the Corporation’s widespread sales points across most provinces, ensuring comprehensive access to device sales, activation, subscription fee payments, and other services including direct technical support.
Regulatory Compliance and Device Registration
A crucial aspect of the Starlink service rollout includes the registration of all Starlink devices currently in use or held by various entities. This process aims to ensure compliance with legal requirements and the correction of the status of devices that have been imported into the country illegally. The government will announce a registration period, during which users must fulfill the necessary conditions to regularize their devices’ status, with legal actions planned against those who fail to comply.
Government Commitment to Connectivity
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Prime Minister’s Office Director, Engineer Anis Baharitha, and the Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs, Fahmi Nu’man. Their presence underscores the government’s commitment to improving internet access across Yemen through strategic partnerships and regulatory measures.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing digital connectivity in Yemen, promising high-speed internet access to its citizens through the innovative Starlink satellite technology.
