Field Day launched in Marib to promote locally improved wheat seeds.

Launch of Improved Seed Distribution in Marib

Today, Abdullah Al-Bakri, the Administrative Deputy of Marib Governorate, inaugurated a field initiative aimed at distributing improved wheat seeds locally. The initiative, executed by the General Seed Multiplication Authority branch in the governorate, focuses on two specific wheat varieties: “Hadramout 3” and “Ghanami.” These varieties underwent selection and testing at the Eastern Agricultural Research Station in the region.

Insights from Agricultural Experts

During the launch, Deputy Al-Bakri received a detailed briefing from Engineer Mohammed Al-Qadi, the branch manager, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Ghabar, the director of the Eastern Agricultural Research Station. They explained the selection and evaluation processes for the two wheat varieties and shared promising results from the multiplication efforts for the 2024/2025 agricultural season. The selected varieties demonstrated high quality, purity, and productivity, along with resistance to diseases. Al-Bakri emphasized that distributing these seeds to farmers will enhance their production and profits, significantly contributing to food security.

Collaboration for Agricultural Advancement

Al-Bakri praised the efforts of the Eastern Agricultural Research Station and the General Seed Multiplication Authority branch. He highlighted the importance of coordination and collaboration between these entities to conduct agricultural research and evaluation. This partnership aims to identify and distribute the best seed varieties to farmers, ultimately boosting their productivity and elevating the agricultural sector’s vital role.

Integrating Agricultural Guidance for Farmers

The Deputy also stressed the need for a cohesive approach that combines the efforts of the research station and the authority with agricultural guidance from the Agriculture Office in the governorate. This collaboration will help educate farmers on the best agricultural practices for improved seed varieties that align with the prevailing climate. By doing so, farmers can reduce input costs while increasing productivity per unit of land, all while maintaining high quality. Al-Bakri reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to empowering the agricultural sector, enabling it to recover and play a crucial role in enhancing food security and supporting the national economy amid the ongoing food and economic crisis facing the country.
