Egypt Expresses Deep Concern Over Escalating Tensions in Southern Lebanon

Ongoing Israeli Airstrikes Raise Alarms

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has voiced significant concern regarding what it describes as a “serious escalation” in southern Lebanon. The ministry specifically referred to the intense Israeli airstrikes in the region, which threaten the unity and sovereignty of Lebanese territory.

In an official statement, Egypt reaffirmed its solidarity with Lebanon during this critical period. The nation expressed its unwavering support for its neighbor, emphasizing the importance of stability in the region.

Warnings of Regional Consequences

Egypt cautioned that the unprovoked Israeli escalation could lead to dire consequences for regional stability. The ministry warned that this situation places the region at a dangerous crossroads, potentially spiraling into a comprehensive regional conflict that could affect all nations involved.

Furthermore, the Egyptian government condemned all unilateral actions targeting civilians and violations of international humanitarian law. The ministry underscored the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank, identifying these conflicts as the root cause of the ongoing tensions in the area.

Israeli Airstrikes Intensify

On Saturday, the Israeli military launched a series of airstrikes in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, reportedly conducting around 100 air raids, according to Israeli media sources. These airstrikes targeted Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, following a previous attack that aimed at key Hezbollah leaders near Beirut.

In retaliation, Hezbollah announced on the same day that it had launched Katyusha rocket attacks on two Israeli military installations in northern Israel. The group stated that these strikes were a response to “attacks on steadfast southern villages and civilian homes.”

Security Measures Heightened

In light of the escalating security situation, the Israeli military decided to close the airspace in northern Israel for 24 hours. This decision followed the assassination of a prominent Hezbollah military leader in a strike on Beirut the previous Friday.

As tensions continue to rise, the international community watches closely, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue to prevent further escalation.
