Yemenis Celebrate September 26 Revolution Despite Houthi Crackdown

Celebrations Amidst Repression

Yemenis living in areas controlled by the Houthi militia marked the anniversary of the September 26 Revolution with vibrant celebrations, including lighting torches and launching fireworks. These festivities occurred despite the militia’s ongoing efforts to suppress public gatherings through widespread arrests and intimidation.

Local Celebrations in Al-Bayda

In the city of Malah, located in the Al-Arash district of Al-Bayda province, residents celebrated the historic event by igniting torches in multiple locations and setting off fireworks from their rooftops. Local sources reported that citizens across various districts and towns in Al-Bayda joined in the festivities, showcasing their resilience against Houthi oppression.

Fireworks Light Up Ibb Province

In Ibb province, residents expressed their joy for the September 26 Revolution by launching fireworks. Many locals also lit the 62nd torch of the revolution, demonstrating their spirit of resistance despite the Houthi militia’s heavy-handed tactics. Social media platforms buzzed with videos of citizens celebrating on rooftops, singing national songs, and enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Youth Ignite the Flame of Revolution

Young people in Ibb’s districts, including Jibla, Al-Sadah, Al-Nadera, Baidan, Al-Sabra, Al-Adain, Al-Mudhikhira, Hizam Al-Adain, Al-Sayani, Al-Qafr, Yareem, and Al-Rudmah, lit torches from the mountains and highlands. They also celebrated with fireworks, showcasing their determination to honor the revolution’s legacy.

Houthi Retaliation

Following these celebrations, the Houthi militia launched a wave of arrests, detaining dozens of residents, particularly in the towns of Baidan, Al-Nadera, and Al-Sadah. This crackdown highlights the ongoing tension between the militia and the Yemeni populace, who continue to assert their right to celebrate their national history.

Defiance in Taiz

In the Sharab Al-Runa district of Taiz province, residents of Jabal Hadiya defied Houthi restrictions by lighting their own torches. This act of defiance reflects a broader trend across various provinces under Houthi control, where citizens have organized public celebrations despite the threat of reprisals.

Conclusion

The September 26 Revolution remains a significant symbol of national pride for many Yemenis. Despite the Houthi militia’s attempts to stifle public expression, the spirit of celebration and resilience continues to shine through in communities across Yemen.
