Defense Minister Discusses Security Cooperation with British and French Ambassadors

On Sunday, Yemeni Defense Minister Major General Mohsen Mohammed Al-Daari held separate meetings with British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, and French Ambassador Catherine Colonna. The discussions focused on enhancing military and security cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and ensuring maritime security.

Addressing Ongoing Threats

During the meetings, Al-Daari highlighted the escalating situation in Yemen, particularly the persistent attacks by Houthi militias on commercial vessels and maritime navigation. He emphasized that strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces represents the best solution to secure global trade routes in Bab el-Mandeb, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. This strategy aims to eliminate the threat posed by Houthi militias, which endanger regional stability.

Identifying Terrorist Collaborations

The defense minister pointed out the evident collaboration between Houthi militants and terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS. He expressed concern over their efforts to destabilize liberated areas. Al-Daari reassured that the armed forces, across various branches, are coordinating efforts to confront both the Houthi militias and the terrorist groups allied with them.

Pursuing Sustainable Peace

In the meeting, attended by Major General Ahmed Al-Yafai, head of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Authority, and Colonel Yahya Al-Waeli, military attaché at the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh, Al-Daari discussed the concessions made by the Yemeni government in pursuit of a lasting peace. He criticized the Houthi militias for repeatedly evading their commitments and manufacturing excuses to avoid negotiations.

This dialogue reflects Yemen’s ongoing efforts to secure international support in its fight against terrorism and to stabilize the region amidst ongoing conflict.
