Shabwa Governor Awad bin al-Wazir highlighted the critical need to maintain the independence of the judiciary. He stressed the importance of enabling judicial personnel to perform their duties in a secure environment, thereby restoring the institution’s authority and credibility.
During a meeting with heads of courts and prosecutors in the province, Governor bin al-Wazir reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to providing logistical and security support. This initiative aims to ensure the smooth operation of the judicial system and promote justice throughout Shabwa.
In the meeting, Dr. Saleh al-Madhaji, head of the Appeals Prosecution, and Judge Ahmed Habtour from the Appeals Court discussed the current state of the judiciary in Shabwa. They outlined the challenges facing courts and prosecution offices, emphasizing the essential requirements for judicial independence.
In a separate discussion, Governor bin al-Wazir met with Mohammed Atiq, Director of the Finance Office, and Abdul Basit Baqader, acting head of the Central Bank of Yemen in Shabwa. They reviewed measures to enhance the province’s financial resources and ensure timely deposits to the Central Bank. This strategy aims to enable the bank to fulfill its financial and banking functions, thereby supporting local development initiatives.
Governor bin al-Wazir underscored the importance of collecting public resources and improving financial management efficiency in the province. He called for direct oversight of resource collection and deposits to the Central Bank.
In another meeting, the governor discussed the status of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Shabwa University with the college’s administration. They addressed the challenges affecting academic operations and explored ways to improve the quality of medical education and strengthen the college’s infrastructure.
Dr. Ali Habtour, the college dean, and faculty members presented the main challenges, including administrative and academic issues, inadequate laboratory facilities, and limited practical training opportunities for clinical students in local hospitals.
Governor bin al-Wazir recognized the college’s significance as the primary academic institution for Shabwa University and a cornerstone for future health sector development. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to resolve existing issues and empower the college to fulfill its educational and professional mission effectively.
The governor also expressed the local authority’s readiness to provide necessary support to enhance the quality of medical education at the college. This support aims to align the college with academic accreditation requirements.
The ongoing discussions reflect a strong commitment to improving judicial independence, financial management, and educational quality in Shabwa, fostering a more robust and effective governance framework.
