Tarik Saleh Meets EU Ambassador to Discuss Yemen’s Stability

On Tuesday, Tarik Saleh, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Patrick Simonnet, the European Union Ambassador to Yemen. The two discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and addressed the latest developments in Yemen’s political and military landscape.

Strategic Partnership with the EU

During their meeting, Saleh and Simonnet explored the potential for a strategic partnership between Yemen and EU member states. They focused on the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to establish security and stability in liberated provinces. They also highlighted the threats posed by terrorism and piracy in the Red Sea.

EU Support for Yemen’s Stability

Tarik Saleh expressed gratitude for the EU’s consistent support for Yemen’s stability and territorial integrity. He praised the EU’s crucial role in humanitarian operations over the past decade. Saleh updated Simonnet on recent developments in liberated provinces, emphasizing that conditions have stabilized. He stressed the need for both national and international efforts to enhance state presence and improve essential services for citizens.

Saudi Arabia’s Role in Regional Stability

Saleh acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s supportive role during these challenging times. He commended the Kingdom for facilitating the upcoming “Southern Dialogue” in Riyadh, which aims to unite various southern factions and strengthen national consensus.

The Importance of Yemen’s Stability

Tarik Saleh underscored that Yemen’s stability is vital for regional security and the safety of international shipping routes. He called for a more active European role in supporting Yemen in combating terrorism and addressing the escalating threats of Houthi piracy, which is reportedly funded by the Iranian regime. He also emphasized the need to protect international navigation in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden.

EU’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, Ambassador Patrick Simonnet reaffirmed the EU’s ongoing support for the Presidential Leadership Council. He expressed the EU’s steadfast commitment to Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity. Simonnet also commended the Council’s efforts to prioritize dialogue and work towards achieving peace.
