On Monday, Sheikh Othman Majali, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with South Korean Ambassador to Yemen, Do Bong-kai. The two officials discussed the bilateral relations between their countries and explored ways to strengthen cooperation on mutual interests.
During the meeting, Majali praised South Korea’s supportive stance towards the Presidential Leadership Council. He emphasized the importance of ending the coup, restoring state institutions, and ensuring the freedom of the Yemeni people. Majali highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between Yemen and South Korea, which have fostered a strong partnership.
Majali urged the international community to bolster efforts against Houthi terrorism, which has negatively impacted the Red Sea region. He pointed out that the Houthis have attacked commercial vessels, receiving Iranian support to threaten international navigation and disrupt global trade. He noted that the Houthi militia lacks the technical and scientific capabilities to produce even basic tools. Instead, he described them as a terrorist group jeopardizing Yemen’s future while hiding in caves and mountains, relying on Iran for support, expertise, and planning.
In response, Ambassador Do Bong-kai expressed his pleasure in meeting with Majali. He reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to Yemen’s stability and internal security. The ambassador also emphasized the importance of combating terrorism, ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, and protecting international trade. Additionally, he welcomed the appointment of the new Prime Minister, Salem bin Brek, signaling a positive step for Yemen’s governance.
This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and South Korea, highlighting shared goals of stability, security, and economic development in the region.
