During the meeting, al-Arada received a briefing from the UN envoy team regarding their agenda. The visit includes various activities and technical meetings related to the plan for supporting the release and reception of detainees. This initiative aligns with the agreements made during the tenth meeting of the Supervisory Committee for the Implementation of the Detainee Release Agreement. The goal is to create the necessary conditions for a successful humanitarian operation.
At the start of the meeting, which included the head of the government negotiating team on detainees, Hadi Heij, and team member Hassan al-Qubaisi, al-Arada welcomed the UN envoy team. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing all forms of support and cooperation to ensure the team’s success. Al-Arada assured that logistical and security arrangements would be in place to facilitate the field program according to the established timeline.
Al-Arada highlighted that the political leadership, represented by Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, actively engages with all initiatives led by the UN. These efforts aim to address humanitarian issues, particularly the detainee file, which holds significant humanitarian and national importance. He noted that resolving this issue could alleviate the suffering of families and enhance humanitarian efforts benefiting the Yemeni people.
Al-Arada reiterated the importance of continued coordination and collaboration between the government and the UN on various humanitarian issues. He praised the role of Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, in supporting efforts to implement humanitarian agreements, particularly those related to the exchange and release of detainees.
In response, Radwa Nour al-Din expressed the UN envoy office’s appreciation for al-Arada’s efforts and ongoing cooperation in facilitating the team’s mission. She noted that the visit to Mareb aims to follow up on the implementation of agreements concerning detainees and to strengthen coordination with relevant parties. This collaboration supports the humanitarian efforts led by the UN and aids in executing the agreements in this area.
This meeting underscores the commitment of both Yemeni leadership and the United Nations to address critical humanitarian issues and foster a collaborative environment for peace and stability in Yemen.
