On Wednesday, in the temporary capital of Aden, Major General Aidarus al-Zubaidi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Japan’s Ambassador to Yemen, Yoichi Nakashima. The two officials addressed the current humanitarian situation in Yemen, focusing on the severe repercussions of Houthi terrorist attacks on vital oil facilities and international shipping routes in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. They emphasized the need for international collaboration to tackle these pressing challenges.
During the meeting, Ambassador Nakashima provided a detailed account of his recent field visit to the Port of Aden. He highlighted a significant project supported by Japan, aimed at maintaining ships and upgrading the port facilities. This initiative also includes enhancements to the fishing port, which will improve their operational capabilities in line with their strategic importance.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Major General al-Zubaidi expressed his gratitude for Japan’s ongoing support across various developmental sectors in Yemen. He voiced his hope for an increase in this assistance, advocating for its expansion to include other vital sectors that contribute to stability and sustainable development in the country.
