Leadership Meeting in Aden Focuses on Judicial Independence

Aden, Yemen – On Thursday, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with the Chief Justice, Judge Mohsen Yahya Taleb, and the Council’s Secretary-General, Judge Sahl Mohammed Hamza, in the temporary capital of Aden. The meeting aimed to discuss the operations of the judiciary and the challenges it faces in various liberated provinces.

Support for Judicial Independence

At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Mahrami congratulated Judge Sahl Hamza on his recent appointment as Secretary-General of the Supreme Judicial Council. He expressed his best wishes for Hamza’s success in his new role. Al-Mahrami reaffirmed his full support for the independence of the judiciary and emphasized the importance of strengthening its role in establishing justice and upholding the rule of law.

Addressing Employment Issues

In a separate discussion, Al-Mahrami and Judge Sahl Hamza, who also leads the committee addressing the cases of individuals forcibly removed from their civil, security, and military positions in southern provinces, explored ways to enhance the committee’s operations. They focused on ensuring the continued reception and processing of cases involving those who have been dismissed or forcibly removed, adhering to legal standards and principles of transitional justice.

Commitment to Humanitarian Efforts

Al-Mahrami expressed his deep commitment to monitoring this humanitarian and national issue. He stressed the importance of overcoming obstacles that hinder the committee’s work, enabling it to fulfill its responsibilities effectively. This effort aims to protect rights and restore public trust in institutions.

In response, the Chief Justice praised Al-Mahrami’s ongoing support for the judiciary and the enhancement of judicial independence. He noted that this backing serves as a crucial foundation for reinforcing the rule of law and establishing justice across various state institutions.

The head of the committee addressing employment issues expressed gratitude to Al-Mahrami for his support in efforts to rectify the situations of those dismissed or forcibly removed. He assured that the committee would continue to refine its operational mechanisms to achieve administrative justice and ensure rights for all individuals, in line with the directives of the leadership and principles of fairness.
